Lubavitch UK is run by an Executive which
has ultimate responsibility for all activities and institutions
under its general umbrella.
From the time of the inception of Lubavitch
UK in 1959, the Executive consisted of three individuals
hand-picked by Rabbi M.M. Schneerson, the Lubavitcher
Rebbe. These were:
Rabbi Nachman Sudak, OBE - Principal
Rabbi Shraga Faivish Vogel - Director
Rev. Aron Dov Sufrin z"l - Director
of Education.
This team created and administered the
broad range of activities seen on this website, with
close communication with the Rebbe. Sadly, on 12th June
1994 the Rebbe passed away, and it was subsequently
considered necessary to broaden the governing structure
of Lubavitch UK, and a larger Executive was created.
In September 1997 there was another sad loss, when Reverend
A.D. Sufrin passed away.
The present Executive is therefore:
Principal, Rabbi N Sudak OBE
Director, Rabbi S.F. Vogel
Rabbi Yirmiyahu Angyalfi, Director of
Lubavitch Foundation, Leeds.
Rabbi Shmuel Arkush, Director of Lubavitch
of the Midlands, and of Operation Judaism
Rabbi Pesach Efune, Director of Lubavitch
of Brighton, and Headmaster of Torah Academy School,
Brighton
Rabbi Shmuel Lew, Headmaster of Lubavitch
Senior Girls School
Rabbi Leivi Sudak, Director of Lubavitch
of Edgware
Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, Director of Lubavitch
of Ilford
Rabbi I. H. Sufrin, Administration, Lubavitch
UK
The Executive meets weekly, generally
in Lubavitch UK Headquarters in Lubavitch House. Two
lay governing members who join the Executive for broader
meetings are:
Mr. Seymour Gorman, Senior Partner
of Lipkin Gorman Solicitors.
Mr. Peter Kalms, Chairman of a number
of Engineering and High Tech companies.
Rabbi Nachman Sudak, the Principal, is
also a member of the inner Executive of the World Agudas
Chassidei Chabad, the central governing committee of
the global Lubavitch movement. He is also on the Executive
of the central Chabad-Lubavitch educational and activist
organisations, Merkoz L'Inyonei Chinuch and Machaneh
Yisroel.
In the New Year's Honours List of 2001,
Rabbi Nachman Sudak was awarded the OBE in recognition
of the wide-reaching Lubavitch UK activities concerning
Youth.
In addition to the Executive, Lubavitch
UK has a Representative Council, composed of delegates
from the various Lubavitch UK organisations: Chabad
Houses, Educational Institutions, Lubavitch Synagogues
and communities. This meets monthly as an open discussion
forum.
