The
Friday Night Project arose from a series of discussions with families in a London
suburb. What happens at the Friday night meal? The candles are lit, and there
is delicious food, but what do people actually talk about? Is there a way of shifting
the conversation onto a Jewish theme?
From this arose the Friday
Night project, supplying a conversation starter based on the Sedra of the week.
There is an 'Adult' page and also a page For Young People. The idea is to read
one or both of these aloud at the Shabbat table, and then let the conversation
flow. Who does the reading? Husband or wife, one or other of
the children, a visitor. 'For Friday Night' provides a convenient form of family
education, discussing the Sedra in a way relevant to daily life. The
weekly leaflets for adults and Young People are mailed to homes throughout Britain.
There is a subscription fee of £25 per year, but anyone who wishes can receive
the leaflet at a reduced fee. The Adult page is also sent free to students. Both
Adult and Young People pages are available online CLICK
