The
Lubavitcher Rebbe always put tremendous emphasis
on the significance of youth: the potential of zest
and enthusiasm, which will lead Judaism into
the future. This attitude is seen in many talks,
letters and in many aspects of Chabad-Lubavitch activities.
The Tzivos Hashem
youth club, one of the largest Jewish organisations
in the world, was set up personally by the Rebbe
in 1981, and boasts the largest Jewish membership with
over 10,000 members drawn from all over the UK.
The out-of-school activities organised
by Lubavitch have enabled thousands of children to enjoy
the rich and varied programmes full of the vitality
of Judaism. For many of them, the Lubavitch clubs,
youth groups and camps are their prime encounter with
vibrant Jewish life.
Our Sages tell us that at Mount Sinai,
when G-d was about to give the Torah to the Jewish people
He asked for a guarantor who would ensure that the Torah
would be observed. The Patriarchs were suggested as
this guarantor; but G-d did not accept them. Then the
Prophets were suggested but they too were rejected.
Only when Youth was put forward as the guarantor
of observance of the Torah was this accepted by G-d.
